Swimming is my life’s work.
A Londoner, as a kid I swam at Willesden and St Marylebone (both gone) prior to moving on to Camden Swiss Cottage where I was 5 times running the 1500m free champ and their 100m fly and freestyle swimmer.
University beckoned (Liverpool) where I swam for Everton with the likes of Margie Kelly (1980 Olympian) and enjoyed Arena League success. University saw a World record for a 24 hour team swim not to be repeated!!
Alongside this I developed an international water polo career and at university winning English and British universities championships in swimming and water polo, out of 4 years (first and master’s degrees) 7 golds, 2 silver and 1 bronze. Happy with that!!!
Water polo saw me play and coach at international level for many years, including European Championships on a number of occasions, highlighted with a bronze Commonwealth medal as well as multiple British Championship success with two clubs as player and coach.
Much of my sport has been alongside a business career (I worked in health and education to Managing Director and completing an MBA) so I understand the challenges everyone faces in juggling study and sport.
I started coaching in the 1990s and have had a great time developing swimmers and water polo players. Currently I coach at both Age Group and Masters Levels.
I turned to tutoring in 2010 and love the process of developing the next generation of teachers and coaches. My aim is to turn out excellent technical teachers with a love of and ability to teach and coach with excellence. I hold a Level 3 Qualifications in; Tutoring, Teaching, Education and Training, Coaching in Teaching and Water Polo, Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement, as well as B.Sc and MBA and am a PADI Divemaster.
Outside of the pool I enjoy outdoor swimming, scuba diving, football and cooking (and eating of course). I still swim, my most recent big success being a medal in the Hellespont swim in 2012.
